Permanently Smooth Laser Hair Removal:
Let Smooth Solutions Be Your Solution to Smooth Skin!
To understand how laser hair removal works, you first need to understand the hair growth process. The key to hair growth on the Human Body all boils down to the “70-30 Rule” :
“Of all the hair follicles in your body, only about 30 percent of hair follicles are active at any one time. The remaining 70 percent are resting or dormant.”
Because the laser light is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, we are only able to treat active follicles. The dormant and resting follicles do not have hair in them, therefore, no target for the laser. Several factors can influence the activation of dormant follicles such as hormones, medication and heredity.
Pretreatment Preparation
Before each treatment you will be asked several short questions about your health status, sun exposure, previous treatments and upcoming events. Although this may seem repetitive, it is necessary to make sure nothing has changed that would cause an ineffective or unsafe treatment.
As “Texas’ Leader In Laser Hair Removal,” we strive to find the best laser for each of our customers. Prior to your treatment your skin color and hair thickness will be examined to determine the appropriate laser settings. For more information on how we select our lasers and other laser procedures, see Understanding Laser Hair Removal by: Steven Finder, MD, MBA, MPH.
The area(s) you want treated will be shaved and marked with red lines to section the skin into proper treatment sites. Once the lines are drawn and your treatment area(s) have been shaved, your laser technician will ensure that protective eye wear is in place and begin your laser hair removal treatment. All of the lines will be removed after your treatment is completed.
How It Works
The laser process itself is quite simple. Pigment, also known as melanin, in your hair absorbs the laser light energy. The absorbed light is converted into heat, causing the follicle cells to overheat and permanently disables them. Damaged follicles can never re-grow hair, therefore giving you the smooth, hairless skin you always dreamed of. For this same reason, however, we can not effectively treat red, blond, gray or white hair because these hair types lack melanin, leaving them unrecognized by any laser. Visit the FAQs page for more information on these factors and others that effect your laser hair treatment and results.
During the procedure, each pulse of the laser covers an area approximately the size a quarter. A cool gel is always used to assist in the comfort of your treatment. While the laser is pulsing, cold air is blown across the treatment area to aid in comfort and skin cooling. This laser process is very fast. For example, underarms can be treated in about five minutes.
Most clients tolerate the procedure well, but if it is too uncomfortable, please notify your technician.
Treatment sessions are spaced 8-16 weeks apart depending on where you are in your treatment cycle. Spacing of treatments is recommended to allow follicles that were in their “resting” state or not actively growing during your previous treatment, to enter their active phase and grow hair. The number of hair removal treatments necessary depends on the site being treated and varies by individual. All skin colors can be effectively treated.
Since some sites may require additional treatments, we offer each treatment after the sixth at supplemental pricing. These prices are approximately 1/3 of the regular price.
