Post Treatment Care Tips
The treated area may become slightly red and puffy within several minutes of your treatment. This response is very normal and the skin should return to its regular apperance within a few hours. The following tips help decrease redness, maximize your current treatment results and prepare you for upcoming treatments:
Moisturize and exfoliate the treated area(s).
For 2-3 weeks after your treatment, it may look like hair is growing in the
treated area(s), it is not. The targeted hair shafts are releasing
from the follicles, giving the apperance of growing hair. Mosturizing helps your body release the dead hair. Try Glycolix Elite Fortified Facial Cream and the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing Brush, sold at all Smooth Solutions locations, for treamtent areas on your face. Glytone Exfoliating Body Wash and Elta MD Lotion are great for extending your hair free periods and leaving your skin silky smooth on all other body sites.
Continuing with your daily sunscreen regimen is vital.
Sun
protection should be used every day as part of a healthy lifestyle,
especially when having laser hair removal treatments. Sun protection
with zinc oxide is recommended. Zinc oxide is one of the best sun
protection ingredients available. We recommend Elta MD UV Shield a dermatologically tested skin care product for the best daily protection from the sun.
Shave between treatments as needed, but stop shaving treatment areas at least 2 days before your next appointment.
Shaving
is the safest method for maintenance hair removal between
treatments because it only removes the hair above the skin and does not
effect the laser's target. If you can not go without shaving, be sure
to leave a small patch of hair in each treatment area so we can evaluate your
hair texture and choose the best laser settings for you. See our Shaving Myths page for more information about the do's and don'ts of maintenance hair removal between treatments.
